Ident Evaluation

Following the viewing of my ident, I gave out a questionnaire for people to fill out. I collected back the results and looked at the feedback. I feel that the overall feeling of my ident went rather well and most of the feedback I got was clearly positive feedback, with other feedback helping see how I could have improved it to make it even better and more professional looking.

For the first question: see below chart. You can see that the majority of people thought that the ident had just the right amount of pacing, which I was very pleased with. Several people thought that it was too slow, but in my own opinion I thought that it had a suitable pace. So I would not change anything to do with the pace of my ident. chart

For the second question I asked what they thought of the logo design. The vast majority of feedback for this question was very positive, saying that the colours in the logo all went well, it was a memorable logo and that it had a vivid and not too complex design. One comment said that it was a little plain which I could agree with slightly and maybe I could have added slightly more depth to the logo. A further comment said that I did not need to put ‘AT’ inside the logo as the name was already there. I would disagree with this as removing the ‘AT’ would take away a lot of the depth of the design. Also there are quite a list of professional game companies that put abbreviations of there logo name as well as the full name. Examples below.

The third question was about the sound, for this question there was only two pieces of feedback that had things that I could change, personally I thought that the sound worked very well with my ident and that it fit the purpose and tone of the ident. One piece of feedback stated that they thought that the lightning sound was out of place, but when listening to my ident over and over I could not hear what they were stating. The next question was on the colour scheme, for this question I had a few pieces of constructive criticism most of these were saying that some of the colours clashed too much due to the contrast, I can see where people were going with this, so next time I would probably make some of the colours in the logo slightly darker. The other helpful  feedback said that the orange on the cracks was slightly hard too see as the cracks were quite thin and that I could have made the orange on the cracks slightly thicker and I would agree 100% if I were to change it. For question five it was about the name of the company, all of the feedback for this was positive apart from one bit. People said that it suited a games company name and that it sounded nice and professional. One bit of feed back said that having ‘GAMES’ in the name made sound less professional, I completely disagree with this feedback and I could go on forever listing professional games companies that use the word ‘games’ in their company name. You can see this in two of the pictures I put below question two. Some other examples are below.

Sixth question see below, as you can see the majority of people clearly thought that my ident suited the target audience, which would be gamers. One person said that it did not, but I think that the ident definitely suited the target audience, it stated that it is a games company by having the word ‘GAMES’ visible in the logo. Also I believe that the colours and themes of the ident were suited for gamers and my myself as a gamer find it suitable for the target audience.

On the seventh question, most of the feedback was very positive saying that the animating was timed well, was very effective and smooth. I had a few pieces of feedback that were on things that I could improve some said that the logo could fall a bit faster, I agree with this and would make it slightly faster, one said that it the cracks were slightly clunky and could have been slightly faster, I would make them a bit faster, but i did not think that they made it clunky.

For question eight most of the feedback was good a few people thought it was too fast and a few too slow, I think that the length was fine as a lot of games company idents are very short like most ea idents only last for about three seconds. I would not change anything about the length.

The ninth and tenth questions showed that overall people really liked the ident, and would only change some small things about the ident, things that I have stated in the feedback on other questions, so overall I am very pleased with my ident and I would only change some small things myself.

Ident Treatment

This will be a fun, futuristic, hi-tech ident for ‘ARCTEK GAMES’ game company an Indie game company. The ident opens with a very light grey background we hear a faint sound of something plummeting down from the sky, the sound getting louder and louder as the object gets nearer to its destination. The logo comes spinning in and crashes into the ground with an impact. We hear a loud cracking sound as the ground beneath the logo begins to crack up an orange and red glow coming from beneath the cracks, the logo pulses with a blue glowing light several times. We see and hear a bright white and blue lighting strike, that leaves the word ‘ARCTEK’ in it’s place. We then hear and see a second lighting strike which leaves the word ‘GAMES’ in its place. There will be a large technological feel to the ident with lots of glowing and bright colours and a futuristic Sci-Fi typography. The ident will be made using a combination Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects. I am convinced this will make an awesome ident for a Indie game company as I believe that it is a interesting eye-catching idea and that it will cater for the target audience.
