What worked well:
- Sound Effects.
- Start and background music.
- They all went well together and helped to bring the game to life and give it atmosphere. They also bring back memories of old school arcade games.
- Pixel art style.
- Gives it a retro feel like old arcade games. Low resolution, font looks circuit and computer like. Bright bold colours. 8-bit colour information.
- Character designs.
- Worked well, vibrant colours, unique looking.
- Particle Effects.
- Helped to add depth and something extra to the game and bring some objects to life e.g the lava.
- Attention to detail.
- The title screen.
- Looks like arcade game start screen. Press Start button. Interesting font style and eye catching colours.
What could be improved:
- Main character’s walk cycle.
- Movement looks a bit off when walking. Feet do not always touch the ground.
- Collision of the sword.
- Make sure collisions work on all parts of the game and that the sword does not go through objects.
- Main character changing directions.
- Sprites offset is slightly off when changing directions.
- More items, pickups and enemy variations.
Things I would do differently:
- I think I would use different software to Gamesalad as I have had quite a few problems with the software, things not working correctly and bugs in the actual software.
- Would of probably used Construct 2 or Gamemaker instead
- Try and make the assets all the right and same size as each other so I do not have to resize them.
Overall I am quite proud of what I have done and in the small amount of time we had to do it and I found it fun and interesting to do. I liked learning how to use new software and what it can do.
