Techniques and processes used by Dada

Dada used several art techniques in their work these included:

  • Collage- a piece of art made by sticking various different materials such as photographs and pieces of paper or fabric on to a backing.
  • Photomontage-  The Dadaists – the “monteurs” (mechanics) – used scissors and glue rather than paintbrushes and paints. It is a variation collage techniques, photomontage used actual or reproductions of real photographs printed in the press.
  • Assemblage- Three-dimensional variations of the collage – the assembly of everyday objects. Objects were nailed, screwed or fastened together in different fashions.
  • Readymades- A mass-produced article selected by an artist and displayed as a work of art.
  • Typography- The art or procedure of arranging type or processing data and printing from it.
  • Solarisation- is a phenomenon in photography in which the image recorded on a negative or on a photographic print is reversed or partially reversed in tone. Dark areas appear light or light areas appear dark.

Ident Evaluation

Following the viewing of my ident, I gave out a questionnaire for people to fill out. I collected back the results and looked at the feedback. I feel that the overall feeling of my ident went rather well and most of the feedback I got was clearly positive feedback, with other feedback helping see how I could have improved it to make it even better and more professional looking.

For the first question: see below chart. You can see that the majority of people thought that the ident had just the right amount of pacing, which I was very pleased with. Several people thought that it was too slow, but in my own opinion I thought that it had a suitable pace. So I would not change anything to do with the pace of my ident. chart

For the second question I asked what they thought of the logo design. The vast majority of feedback for this question was very positive, saying that the colours in the logo all went well, it was a memorable logo and that it had a vivid and not too complex design. One comment said that it was a little plain which I could agree with slightly and maybe I could have added slightly more depth to the logo. A further comment said that I did not need to put ‘AT’ inside the logo as the name was already there. I would disagree with this as removing the ‘AT’ would take away a lot of the depth of the design. Also there are quite a list of professional game companies that put abbreviations of there logo name as well as the full name. Examples below.

The third question was about the sound, for this question there was only two pieces of feedback that had things that I could change, personally I thought that the sound worked very well with my ident and that it fit the purpose and tone of the ident. One piece of feedback stated that they thought that the lightning sound was out of place, but when listening to my ident over and over I could not hear what they were stating. The next question was on the colour scheme, for this question I had a few pieces of constructive criticism most of these were saying that some of the colours clashed too much due to the contrast, I can see where people were going with this, so next time I would probably make some of the colours in the logo slightly darker. The other helpful  feedback said that the orange on the cracks was slightly hard too see as the cracks were quite thin and that I could have made the orange on the cracks slightly thicker and I would agree 100% if I were to change it. For question five it was about the name of the company, all of the feedback for this was positive apart from one bit. People said that it suited a games company name and that it sounded nice and professional. One bit of feed back said that having ‘GAMES’ in the name made sound less professional, I completely disagree with this feedback and I could go on forever listing professional games companies that use the word ‘games’ in their company name. You can see this in two of the pictures I put below question two. Some other examples are below.

Sixth question see below, as you can see the majority of people clearly thought that my ident suited the target audience, which would be gamers. One person said that it did not, but I think that the ident definitely suited the target audience, it stated that it is a games company by having the word ‘GAMES’ visible in the logo. Also I believe that the colours and themes of the ident were suited for gamers and my myself as a gamer find it suitable for the target audience.

On the seventh question, most of the feedback was very positive saying that the animating was timed well, was very effective and smooth. I had a few pieces of feedback that were on things that I could improve some said that the logo could fall a bit faster, I agree with this and would make it slightly faster, one said that it the cracks were slightly clunky and could have been slightly faster, I would make them a bit faster, but i did not think that they made it clunky.

For question eight most of the feedback was good a few people thought it was too fast and a few too slow, I think that the length was fine as a lot of games company idents are very short like most ea idents only last for about three seconds. I would not change anything about the length.

The ninth and tenth questions showed that overall people really liked the ident, and would only change some small things about the ident, things that I have stated in the feedback on other questions, so overall I am very pleased with my ident and I would only change some small things myself.

Jetty Scene: Modelling Part 2 and Animating

Next I started to model the objects that I was going to animate. I started with the boat first I made the main boat shape and refined it then I made the engine and propeller to go on the end. To animate the boat I firstly added a character constraint tag onto the boat. In the basic tab I selected the clamp constraint, then in the clamp settings I made the water the target object and changing the To selection to Surface and moving the distance amount into the right position to make the boat sit on the water. For the crate I used the exact same method.

The next things I animated were a cloth on the back of the shack and an entry sign on the front of the shack. To start I just got a plane and found a appropriate texture to add to them, then to animate I added a cloth expression, I then selected the points on the cloth that I wanted to be attached to the shack  and using the set fix points in the Dresser tab, The I made it look more like it was blowing in the wind by changing the values in the Forces tab.

Next I did the palm trees I made them out of cylinders and the leaves by using the array tool to animate them I used a Spline Wrap with a Mospline and then adding the Wind and Turbulence Objects to add the swaying effect by changing different settings like wind speed and turbulence strength.

The Second to last thing I animated was a swinging bulb with light coming out of it, first I made the bulb and a rope to attach it to the ceiling I then added a Spring tag to the top of the hierarchy and made the ceiling plank object A and made the bulb object B and changing the attachment B to offset and setting it so that it is in line with the top of the bulb, I then set the rest length of the rope by changing the value and clicking Set Rest Length. I put constraint tags onto the rope spline and a Spline Dynamics tag and selecting each end of the rope and setting it and adding a Dynamic Body Tag to make it swing with the rope and putting the light below the bulb in the hierarchy to make it move with the bulb.

The last last thing I animated was a school of fish. I started by putting a Vibrate tag on a null and changing the settings, I then made a tracer to follow the path of the Vibrate tag and made it into a sweep so that you could see the path, I then cloned a pyramid and put it on the sweep and hid the sweep so only the pyramids could be seen. Next I added a Delay and Random tag to make each pyramid move slightly differently.

Jetty Scene: Modelling Part 1

I Started by making the decking with stairs up to it, then I made the shack by copying the planks and placing them in a square shape and then adding the corrugated roofing to it. Following that I made an oil silo.

Next I made a pier with boat ties, tyres and some ropes. Then I made some barrels by starting with cylinders and changing them and I also made a portable generator.
